Concept artist Daniel Porto says AI amplifies his 20 years of experience

Brazilian concept artist Daniel Porto, who has spent 20 years creating work for agencies including McCann, Jung von Matt, and GUT, says artificial intelligence has amplified his decades of experience rather than replacing it. His view cuts against the controversy around AI art, where many artists fear the technology will devalue skills built over years. Porto has earned six spots in Lürzer's Archive's Top 200 Digital Artists Worldwide. Today, he blends traditional digital art with AI to produce polished concept art and advertising imagery. He argues that his deep background is precisely what makes AI useful, not a threat. Experience finds a shorter path to the screen "The experience got amplified," Porto said. "Everything I built over those years - the drawing, the art direction, the visual repertoire - suddenly has a much shorter path to the screen." He explained that AI collapsed the distance between what he could imagine and what he could produce, which was once defined by budget, team, or time. The shift is not about easy prompting, he said, but about no longer depending on a huge production structure to experiment and bring ideas to life. "We need finer control over the results, not just prettier outputs," he said. Why this matters for creatives Porto's advice to experienced creatives is direct: don't fight the tools. "Embrace it, experiment, break it, and build your own workflow," he said. AI does not erase the value of a trained eye or a strong visual repertoire. As execution becomes democratized, creative vision becomes the real competitive advantage.
