For years, Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate were regarded as the busiest stations on the Delhi Metro network. However, that has now changed. According to the latest Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) ridership data, Botanical Garden Metro Station in Noida has become the busiest station across the network, overtaking Kashmere Gate for the first time as commuter traffic increasingly shifts towards Noida. Botanical Garden records highest footfall According to a report by The Times of India, Botanical Garden recorded an average daily footfall of 2.7 lakh passengers in June, making it the busiest station in the Delhi Metro network. The rankings for June are: Botanical Garden: 2.7 lakh daily passengers Kashmere Gate: 2.6 lakh daily passengers Rajiv Chowk: 2.1 lakh daily passengers DMRC officials attribute the increase to Noida’s growing importance as a residential, commercial and employment hub. Holding the top spot since March Botanical Garden has consistently remained the busiest station since March. Its average daily ridership over the past four months stood at: March: 2.6 lakh April: 2.8 lakh May: 2.6 lakh June: 2.7 lakh The station has stayed ahead of both Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk throughout this period. Why is Botanical Garden attracting more commuters? One of the biggest reasons is its role as an interchange between the Blue Line and Magenta Line. The Blue Line connects commuters to key destinations such as Rajiv Chowk, Dwarka, Vaishali and Noida Electronic City, while the Magenta Line offers direct connectivity to south Delhi and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. This makes Botanical Garden an important transit point for thousands of passengers travelling between Noida, Delhi and the airport every day. Noida’s corporate growth driving demand Officials say the station has become the preferred gateway for employees travelling to offices along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Large numbers of commuters use shuttle buses, app-based taxis, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws from the station to reach business hubs in sectors 125, 126, 127, 132, 135, 142 and nearby commercial areas. The rapid growth of residential projects in Noida has also contributed to the increase in passenger numbers. Better last-mile connectivity Botanical Garden’s strong last-mile connectivity has further boosted its popularity. The station offers: Multi-level parking with capacity for around 7,000 vehicles Taxi and app-based cab services Bike taxis Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws Shops, kiosks and food outlets inside the station Officials also expect passenger numbers to rise further once Botanical Garden is connected to the Noida Metro Aqua Line, creating another major interchange for commuters travelling across Noida and Greater Noida.
