Elliot Lake daycare hosts inaugural summer carnival

Article content The Claire Dimock Children’s Centre in Elliot Lake held its inaugural Summer Community Carnival on July 25. The CDCC is a licensed non-profit childcare facility in the community. It is named after Claire Dimock, a local figure who played a significant role in transitioning the town from its mining days into a retirement and family-focused community. Recommended Videos The CDCC utilized its outdoor playground for the event and transformed it into a carnival-like atmosphere, with a variety of games for both adults and children. While the event was free to attend, organizers encouraged families to bring a non-perishable food items to donate to the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank. “Approximately 20 vendors and sponsors helped make the day happen,” said Ti Hiuser, communication coordinator. Despite the slight drizzle, children with painted faces ran from booth to booth with enthusiasm. The Toronto Dominion Bank hosted a large Jenga game, and the Trifecta Experience booth kept kids lined up to spin the prize wheel. The Elliot Lake Child and Family Centre had frisbees to play with, and The Kiwanis Club of Elliot Lake had a lucky duck challenge. The beanbag toss and a game of knocking down Mr. Nate’s tin cans kept pitching arms in shape. Additionally, an inflatable axe-throwing station proved to be a big hit with the kids. The food vendor, Pop N’ Freeze, offered families snow cones in a variety of flavours, cotton candy and other sticky carnival treats. A silent auction was also held, and parents had a chance to bid on variety of items displayed inside the daycare. The community can look forward to more seasonal celebrations by the CDCC. “We will also be holding a Winter Carnival as well as a Halloween Haunt,” Hiuser shared. Judging by the ear-to-ear grins of the children, the event was a success.
