Explosions Reported in Southern Parts of Iran

Iranian sources have reported hearing several explosions in the Sirik area of Hormozgan province in southern Iran. Fars News Agency reported early Sunday, July 19, that explosions were heard from several locations in Sirik. According to the report, authorities in Hormozgan province said a location in Sirik was targeted in U.S. military strikes. Some residents of Kish Island in southern Iran also reported that air defense systems had been activated in the area. The developments come as tensions between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz have escalated, with reciprocal military attacks in the Persian Gulf continuing for several days.
