Fallout 5 Official Gameplay Teaser Is Exactly What We Hoped For

Fallout 5 might be a long way away, but the latest teaser is certainly enough to get the beleaguered fans excited.

After giving us precisely zero information about what's going on with the Fallout franchise from a gaming perspective over the last few years, Bethesda suddenly went overload mode and dropped a bunch of exciting confirmations on everyone in what was actually pretty good news for once. The big news was that both the Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters, which had long been circulated in rumors, are very much real, though they didn't go as far as giving us a release date. They also confirmed that Fallout 5 is underway, though it seems like that's considerably further back in its progress so far. Over on Windows Central, Bethesda head honcho Todd Howard sat down to discuss the studio's projects, including Fallout 5. As part of that, he broke down the technology and engine they have been working with, which allows multiple teams to produce in parallel, which should hopefully speed up the development process as a whole. "For the worlds we want to create, and given that we're going to make Fallout 5, the question was how to do all this work in parallel, without constant stops and restarts. And we are very happy with the result. I can't stop admiring our technical team — they are just incredible. Our designers ask for a lot of crazy things, and the technical team finds a way to implement it. And I think that's what defines our games — the feeling that anything is possible." At the same time, Howard also detailed how user-created content will remain at the heart of their thinking, just as it was for the previous games in the Elder Scrolls series. "If you look back, you can see that ever since we started this journey with Morrowind, we've always been very passionate about it. I insisted that The Elder Scrolls Construction Set [toolset] be shipped with the game — as a separate disc. And we've been doing this for decades. We have a community of content creators who have been doing this for just as long, and it's thanks to them that games like Skyrim stay alive even after fifteen years. You can see how people who used to do this as a hobby are now becoming professionals. The content they create amazes us — they do incredible work. For some, this is already a full-fledged career, and that makes us truly happy." While Fallout 5 is probably still years away from actually being in players' hands, the fact that they are able to streamline the pipeline to work in parallel should hopefully mean the wait won't be as long from here as many were expecting. Before then, we also have The Elder Scrolls VI to look forward to, so let's hope that arrives before we are all old and grey.
