Photo: Alain Jocard/AFP/Getty Images Fijians living in and around Bordeaux remain safe despite advancing wildfires in southwestern France, with no reports of injuries or damage to their homes, according to an update provided to Fiji's Permanent Mission in Geneva. Ambassador Ilaitia Tamata, Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, said the President of the Fiji Rugby Players Association in France and former Fiji rugby representative, Jone Daunivucu, had provided the latest update on the wildfire situation affecting the Bordeaux region. Mr Daunivucu has been in contact with members of the Fijian diaspora residing in and around Bordeaux. Related stories While the wildfires continue to advance towards the city, all Fijian households contacted remain safe, and there have been no reports of damage to their homes. At this stage, the French authorities have not issued any evacuation orders for residents of Bordeaux. Mr Daunivucu also advised that some members of the Fijian community living in other parts of southwestern France, including La Rochelle and Brive, have experienced disruptions. While those localities have not been directly affected by the fires, heavy smoke from the wildfires has disrupted daily life, with some residents remaining unable to return to work. Fiji's Permanent Mission in Geneva said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in regular contact with members of the Fijian community in the affected areas. Any significant developments will be reported as they arise.
