Football clubs unite to mark Pink Round GROUNDS will be awash with pink in this Sunday’s 16th round in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition. Clubs will again unite to mark Pink Round and to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Australia Network. Matches are scheduled to played in Bendigo, Eaglehawk, White Hills, and Woodend. All four contests will start at 1pm. Fighting to stay in touch with the top four, White Hills faces a huge task when it plays the ladder-leading Golden Square. The Demons will have home-ground advantage in Scott Street. It’s a tough run for the White Hills team which played at Castlemaine last Sunday. A Demons’ team coached by Sharni Barker and Allara Jackson starts this round locked on 28 points, but more than 60 per cent behind the fourth-placed Wedge-Tailed Eagles. Best for White Hills in the match at Castlemaine were Sharni Barker, Sasha Pearce, Tracey Anderson and Carine Comer. Golden Square dominated last Sunday’s match with Wedge-Tailed Eagles at Gourmet Pantry Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street. The Darren Walsh-coached Golden Square won by 124 points as Gabby Drage kicked eight goals to be among the best for the blue and gold with Gemma Roberts, Ava Barker and Lauren Knight. It’s another tough hit-out for the Phil Hawkes-coached Wedge-Tailed Eagles as they will play Castlemaine. The battle of the Eagles and Magpies will be at Woodend’s Racecourse Reserve. Eyeing a run at a fifth consecutive premiership, Castlemaine scored an 83-point victory on its turf at The Railway Hotel Oval in Camp Reserve. Eaglehawk takes on Bendigo Thunder at C and M Oval in Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park. It’s a must-win match for the Molly Metcalf-coached Hawks who are sixth, but just a win behind the Eagles who lead the Two Blues by more than 40 per cent. The Hawks had a rest last Sunday as Marong forfeited the match. Key players for Eaglehawk include captain Eliza Long, Monique Gavriliadis, Lucy El Hage, Caitlin Evans and Taylah Nicholson. Sandhurst is drawn to play Marong at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo’s View Street. The Dragons are third on an 11-4 record.
