‘Get these guns now’: Indicted Killeen murder suspect incriminated himself in jail phone calls

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - The suspect in a Killeen Murder, extradited after his capture in Oklahoma, was indicted by a Bell County grand jury in the murder of Christopher Ray Gillespey. Charlie Wayenleon Waldon, a.k.a “Lucky,” has been held on a $1-million bond at the Bell County Jail in Belton since June. On March 12, 2026, Killeen police officers responded to the 1700 block of N. Gray Street in Killeen for a reported shooting. According to an arrest warrant obtained by KWTX, KPD officers located an SUV in the front yard of the residence with an open driver’s door and a wounded man lying halfway in the driver’s seat. The victim, identified as Gillespey, was suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower left abdomen. The victim’s girlfriend told the officers that the victim and Waldon were arguing inside the residence when she heard a gunshot. The woman also said she saw a firearm in Waldon’s hand and “described viewing a cloud consistent with a firearm discharge at the time she heard the gunshot.” Waldon reportedly told her he would take Gillespey to get help after the shooting, but instead left him outside in the SUV, the document states. Multiple witnesses who spoke with KPD detectives identified “Lucky” either as the person who shot Gillespey or the person who had an altercation prior to the shooting, the warrant states. There were also signs of a disturbance in the residence, including a broken glass and broken vase, the document states. Smears of blood were observed throughout the residence and a spent shell casing was located on the floor inside the master bedroom. Waldon was reportedly taken into custody on a parole warrant on March 13, a day after the murder. During his time in jail, his calls were reviewed by KPD officers. The document states in these calls, Waldon placed himself at the scene of the shooting, acknowledged the victim’s gunshot injury and his failed attempt to place the victim into the SUV. Waldon also made several statements while in jail that appear to be efforts to interfere with the homicide investigation, instructing someone outside to “get these guns now,” police alleged in the documents. The arrest warrant does not detail how or why Waldon was released from jail after he was initially taken into custody. An arrest warrant charging murder was issued on May 7. Waldon was captured in in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, and arrested May 14 by deputies with the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
