Heavy thunderstorms roll through Albuquerque metro

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Gauges showed Embudo Arroyo rose above 10 feet as life-threatening flash flooding hit parts of the Albuquerque area. At 6:06 p.m. Friday, gauge reports showed high flows in Embudo Arroyo, and authorities warned that flash flooding was already happening. Forecasters said between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain had fallen in the warned area, with up to 1 more inch possible. The warning said thunderstorms were producing flash flooding that could affect creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Areas at risk The warning includes Albuquerque, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, North Valley, Sandia Heights, South Valley and Alameda. It also includes Interstate 40 between mile markers 157 and 168 and Interstate 25 between mile markers 222 and 233. Officials said gauges reported the flooding source, and the warning remained focused on life-threatening conditions in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
