CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – First responders are used to running toward danger, and out latest Hometown Hero is no exception. Jerry Booker, who has been on the janitorial staff at the Robert C. Byrd federal courthouse for more than 20 years, heard a woman screaming in his apartment complex. He quickly sprang into action and, along with another neighbor, helped rescue the woman. “To me, it’s somebody that goes above and beyond what’s normally expected for somebody to do, and Jerry did that,” said Leon Knapp who works at the federal courthouse in Charleston.
