Mangaluru: White Doves reunites Gopi with family in 496th reunion

Media Release Mangaluru, Jul 28: Gopi, from Bilaswara, Uttar Pradesh, was happily married and the mother of two young sons, aged 9 and 4. Her life took a tragic turn when she discovered that her husband was involved in another relationship. The emotional trauma led to constant conflicts at home, and eventually she suffered a severe mental health crisis. Consumed by anger and confusion, she even expressed a desire to harm her husband’s girlfriend. Soon after, Gopi disappeared. She began dressing like a boy, called herself ‘Don’, and wandered from place to place. She was eventually found by a kind-hearted truck driver in the Pali district of Rajasthan. Realising that she was vulnerable and in need of help, he recorded a video in the hope that someone would recognise her and forwarded it widely. He then took her safely to the local police station. By the time Gopi’s family reached the police station, she had already run away and boarded a train. This was on June 7. The family filed a missing person complaint but, as months passed, they gradually lost hope of ever finding her. Gopi was brought to White Doves by personnel from the Pandeshwar South police station after she was found wandering near Valencia. She was admitted to White Doves, where she received psychiatric treatment, counselling, and compassionate care. When she first arrived, she was abusive, aggressive, and emotionally distressed. With consistent treatment and support over the following weeks, she gradually became calmer, regained clarity, and slowly began sharing details about her family. White Doves expresses its joy at reuniting Gopi with her loved ones. She has been longing to see her children again, especially her two young sons. The reunion between Gopi and her brother was deeply emotional. Tears flowed freely as they embraced after such a long and painful separation. Her brothers-in-law were equally moved, unable to hold back their tears. It was a powerful reminder that hope, compassion, and timely mental health care can bring families back together, even after they have almost given up. White Doves expressed gratitude to God that Gopi found safety and was ultimately reunited with her family. At a time when even young women are often vulnerable to exploitation and violence, her journey could have ended very differently. Instead, through God's grace, the kindness of strangers, and the dedicated care she received at White Doves, Gopi was given a second chance at life and the priceless joy of being reunited with her loved ones.
