Mansukh Mandaviya praises Neeraj, Yashvir’s historic Commonwealth Games javelin medals

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya commended Neeraj Chopra and Yashvir Singh for achieving a historic double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games 2026. He described their silver and bronze medals as a significant milestone for Indian athletics and a proud moment for the nation. At the Games in Glasgow, India made history as Chopra secured the silver medal and debutant Singh won bronze, marking the country’s first double podium in this event. “A double podium finish to remember! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for winning Silver and YashVir Singh for securing Bronze in the Men’s Javelin Throw at the Commonwealth Games. Two Indians finishing on the podium is a historic first for this event. This is a truly proud milestone for Indian athletics!” Mandaviya wrote in a post on X. The gold medal was claimed by Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who delivered a best throw of 89.75 metres in his second attempt. Mandaviya also congratulated Tejaswin Shankar for winning India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the decathlon, praising his bronze medal as a landmark achievement. “History created in the Men’s Decathlon! Congratulations to TOPS athlete Tejaswin Shankar for winning Bronze and securing India’s first-ever CWG medal in the Decathlon. The entire country is proud of you,” he wrote in another X post. Shankar finished the competition with a total of 7,976 points. He secured the bronze after a strong performance in the final 1500 metre race, clocking 4:36.19. Despite a late challenge from England’s competitor, whose time was 4:32.29, Shankar maintained his position to claim the historic podium finish.
