Mildred Buer Mildred Buer, 88, of Willmar, died Friday, July 17th at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Friday, July 24th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar with a prayer service starting at 6. Her visitation will continue one hour prior to her service at the church. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar, www.hafh.org Mildred “Millie” Emma Buer was born on May 23, 1938, to Christian and Emma (Stahlhut) Schmidt in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was baptized on June 12, 1938, and confirmed on April 6, 1952. Millie graduated from Elmhurst High School on May 25, 1956. During her junior and senior years of high school, she worked summers at Wayne Feed in Fort Wayne. Following high school, Millie attended one year of junior college before graduating from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, on June 3, 1960. She began her teaching career as a first-grade teacher at St. John’s Lutheran School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she taught from 1960 to 1963. She then taught for one year at Central Lutheran School in New Haven, Indiana, from 1963 to 1964. On June 27, 1964, Millie was united in marriage to Orial Vern Buer at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Eagle Lake, Minnesota, where they lived until relocating to their home and farm east of Willmar in 1974. Millie worked for the Willmar School System teaching elementary students and received an Exemplary District 2 Service Award in 1998. She retired from teaching in 2001. Millie enjoyed helping on the family farm and was an active member of her church. She volunteered in many ways, including serving on the church council, teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, and participating in the handbell choir. Millie was an active member of the Sons of Norway, Retired Teachers, and Tripolis Homemakers Club. She was also involved with the Kandiyohi Busy Bees and later the Kandi Country Siders 4-H clubs. Millie enjoyed exhibiting projects at the Kandiyohi County Fair and, in later years, volunteered with the Home Exhibits department. In her spare time, she loved creating family scrapbooks. Millie and her husband Vern traveled to all 50 states, the Virgin Islands, all but one of Minnesota’s state parks, and 40 national parks. Above all, Millie treasured visiting her family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Millie is survived by her husband, Vern; children: Krista (Chad) Willis, Kenneth (Tammy) Buer, Mark (Tracy) Buer, and Myron (Tami) Buer; grandchildren: Cooper Willis, Amber (Justin) Van Eps, Corey Buer, Nicholas Buer, Taylor Buer, Jenna Buer, Jamie Buer; and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and granddaughter, Ashley Buer. ADVERTISEMENT
