Mofokeng Fires Union SG To First Trophy In Belgium

Bafana Bafana midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng scored the winning penalty to help Union Saint-Gilloise claim the Belgian Super Cup on Friday night. The former Orlando Pirates star was only named on the bench for Friday's encounter, as he continues to get familiar with the team. However, Mofokeng was introduced just after the hour mark in the second half with Union trailing Brugge 1-0. Kevin Mac Allister got the teams back on level terms in the 77th minute, which ultimately sent the game to a penalty shoot-out. In his first official game for the club, the Bafana attacker showed nerves of steel to take the team's fifth penalty and calmly converted to seal a 5-4 win. Mofokeng sent the fans and his teammates into wild celebrations as they opened their 2026/2027 with a trophy. The win will also aid to the team's confidence ahead of their UEFA Champions League third qualifier on Tuesday evening against Bodo/Glimt.
