PH falls to Myanmar in ASEAN Championship campaign opener

The Philippine Men's National Football Team opened its ASEAN Championship (Hyundai Cup) campaign with a 4-1 loss to Myanmar on Tuesday at the New Clark City Stadium. Myanmar came out on the front foot, with Kyaw Min Oo opening the scoring in the seventh minute. Than Paing doubled Myanmar's advantage in the 28th minute, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead at halftime. The Philippines found a lifeline in the second half as Jarvey Gayoso pulled one back with a goal in the 68th minute despite the gloomy conditions in Tarlac. Myanmar, however, put the match beyond doubt with two late goals. Win Naing Tun found the back of the net in the 81st minute before Than Paing completed his brace just two minutes later to seal the 4-1 victory. The Philippines will look to bounce back when it faces Laos on Saturday in Vientiane, before returning home on August 4 to play Thailand. —JKC GMA News
