Puttur: Fake currency printing racket busted by Uppinangady police; seven arrested

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur Puttur, Jul 16: In a major operation, the Uppinangady police busted an illegal Indian counterfeit currency printing racket operating out of a building in Adenja of Kaniyoor village in Beltangady taluk on Thursday, July 16. The police arrested seven accused and seized electronic equipment used for the crime. Acting on precise information that a gang was using electronic devices to print fake Indian currency notes, Uppinangady police sub-inspector Sutesh K P, along with his personnel, raided the location on Thursday morning. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ibrahim, Shareef, Sandeep Pundalik Sholambi, Mohammad Nabash, Salman Faris, Sirajuddin, and Irshad. During the raid, the police recovered one counterfeit note of Rs 500 denomination, 21 A4-size sheets containing prints resembling Rs 500 currency notes, a computer system, a Xerox machine, duplicate seals, and other incriminating materials used in the illegal manufacturing process. All materials were confiscated from the site. A case has been registered at the Uppinangady police station under crime number 103/2026 under Section 178 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is underway. The operation was conducted with the collaborative assistance of Kodagu district superintendent of police Bindu Mani R N, IPS, and Kodagu district police personnel Yogeesh B (HC 193) and Niranjan M N (HC 190). Dakshina Kannada district special branch police inspector Nandakumar, along with ASI Deepak, HC Satish, and HC Rauf, co-operated with the Uppinangady sub-inspector in successfully tracking down the network and registering the case.
