St. Kitts and Nevis concludes aquaculture training workshop under Shrimp and Finfish Project

The ceremony marked the successful completion of the workshop and celebrated the participants’ accomplishment during the period. The workshop was part of the ongoing Shrimp and Finfish Pilot Grow-out Project and it was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The department of Marine Resources was leading it on the behalf of the Ministry. While talking about the huge success of the workshop, the Department of Marine Resources said that it ended on a high note. They stated that the certificate ceremony not just highlighted the success of the workshop but also marked an important step towards the development of aquaculture in the federation. Through the workshop, participants gained new silks in sustainable aquaculture practices which will strengthen the network of individuals working to support the marine sector in St. Kitts and Nevis. The Department of Marine Resources further explained that during the workshop participants got the insights and valuable knowledge along with practical skills in shrimp grow-out systems. The workshop also provides valuable education to the participants on infrastructure design, water management, biosecurity and experienced best practices on sustainable aquaculture. The department acknowledged the individuals’ participation in the workshop. The department said, “Congratulations to all participants as they apply their new knowledge to help advance local fish production and strengthen national food security”. Additionally, the workshop began on Tuesday July 21 and the last day was concluded on Thursday July 23, 2026. On the second day of the workshop participants learn about the covering tank construction design along with plumbing and aeration system and the installation of a round tank system. Notably, the Shrimp and Finfish Pilot Grow-out Project (TCP/SLC/4002) was implemented in the federation in June 2024. The initiative is taking place in collaboration between the federation, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
