Suspect in North Omaha shooting that wounded 7 sentenced to decades in prison

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The man arrested in connection to a mass shooting in North Omaha has been sentenced to prison. Maurice Brown of Council Bluffs was sentenced to 38-45 years in prison on the charges of use of a deadly weapon and 2nd degree assault. Brown was initially charged with seven counts of using a gun to commit a felony, six counts of second-degree assault, one county of first-degree assault, and one count of possession of a gun by a prohibited person. He pleaded no contest to two of those charges in April. The shooting was first reported in August of 2025 as a ShotSpotter activation alert indicating multiple shots had been fired in the parking lot at Kelly’s Package Liquor, located at 30th and Pinkney streets. Officers said that upon arrival, they saw “a large crowd leaving the scene.” In addition to Brown, three others — ages 21, 22, and 38 — had been shot and were driven by non-emergency vehicles to CHI Immanuel Hospital, near 72nd Street and Sorensen Parkway.
