기사 본문 영역 The Middle East situation is returning to before the signing of the memorandum of understanding. The United States and Iran have exchanged attacks, and the U.S. has resumed its maritime blockade against Iran. Iran has also warned that they should be prepared to pay the price. This is Song Young-seok reporting from Berlin. [Report] The U.S. has resumed its maritime blockade against Iran starting from 5 AM today, Korea time. This comes 26 days after the previous memorandum of understanding was signed and the blockade was lifted. The U.S. military has stated that over 20 naval vessels and hundreds of military aircraft have been deployed. All ships traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas are now under control. This is a measure aimed at cutting off Iran's financial resources. [Donald Trump/President of the United States: "Anybody doing business with Iran can't go through, everyone else will be able to go through so it's a blockade. It's a very strong blockade. The blockade was probably more effective even than hitting them."] The Iranian Revolutionary Guard immediately issued a statement warning that oil and gas exports beneficial to the U.S. and its allies will also be blocked. This has been interpreted as suggesting the possibility of utilizing Yemeni Houthi rebels to blockade the Bab-el-Mandab Strait, a gateway in the Red Sea. One hour before the resumption of the maritime blockade, the U.S. military again conducted extensive airstrikes on major Iranian coastal cities. Iran has condemned the U.S. for its missiles hitting civilian homes, resulting in the deaths of three family members, calling it a clear war crime. [Kazem Gharibabadi/Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran: "The U.S. has violated all commitments under the memorandum of understanding. The memorandum has been shattered."] The Iranian military has continued to heighten tensions by conducting additional attacks on U.S. military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
