Morung Express NewsZunheboto | July 18The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Zunheboto, on July 18 under the chairmanship of K Tokugha Sukhalu, Advisor, MLA and Chairman of DPDB Zunheboto, and Dharam Raj, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto.At the outset, the Chairman welcomed the newly inducted board members and reviewed the minutes and action taken on the resolutions of the previous meeting before taking up the agenda items for discussion.During the meeting, the Board deliberated on several development proposals and approved a number of key initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure, public services, education and district-level development.Among the major agenda items was a proposal for the endorsement of the Community Social Responsibility (ComSR) Model and the Green Campus Initiative pilot project to be implemented at Zunheboto Government College, which received the Board’s approval.The Board also approved a proposal for the establishment of a Fire and Emergency Services Station at Akuluto Town. Members highlighted the strategic importance of the location, noting that Nagaland University, JNV Lumami and several other institutions are situated under Akuluto Sub-Division, which frequently hosts state-level programmes and visits by senior government officials and dignitaries. The proposed fire station is expected to significantly improve emergency response services in the area.Another proposal approved during the meeting was the establishment of a Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) office at Satakha to strengthen water supply administration and public service delivery in the subdivision.The Board further approved the construction of the District Welfare Office HoD building at Zunheboto.Under the education sector, the DPDB recommended grant-in-aid proposals for Mount View School, Suruhuto, and Convent Kids School, South Point East Colony, Zunheboto, subject to further necessary procedures.The Board also approved the conduct of the Inter-Departmental Tournament 2026, to be held in September. The tournament will be organised by the Heads of Departments in coordination with the District Sports Office to promote camaraderie and healthy competition among government departments.A significant highlight of the meeting was the finalisation and approval of the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) 2026–2027, enabling the implementation of developmental works across the district under the programme.During the session, Hokishe Chophy, District Planning Officer (DPO) and DISHA Officer, Zunheboto, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on HIV and AIDS initiatives.It was also decided that the Rural Development Department would make the next departmental presentation, focusing on the differences between MGNREGA and VB-G RAM G to enhance awareness among Board members.
