Zunheboto DPDB: Sukhalu urges officials to dedicate themselves to public service
Morung Express NewsZunheboto | July 18Calling upon government officials to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to public service, Advisor and Chairman of the Zunheboto District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), K Tokugha Sukhalu, urged officers posted in Zunheboto to work with sincerity and extend their fullest support to the people during their tenure in the district.Addressing the DPDB meeting on Saturday at the DC Conference Hall, Zunheboto, Sukhalu acknowledged the practical challenges faced by many departments, particularly those functioning without adequate office buildings or government quarters. He assured the officers that such concerns would be taken up on a priority basis.“I would like the departments that do not have quarters or office buildings to let me know without hesitation. I understand that everything cannot be done at once, but I will prioritise your requirements based on urgency,” he said. The Advisor also highlighted the inconvenience caused by the shortage of residential accommodation, noting that many officers posted in Zunheboto are compelled to travel frequently to Kohima, Mokokchung or other districts due to the lack of basic facilities.“When officers do not have proper accommodation here, they come to work and then leave for Kohima or Mokokchung, sometimes remaining away for two or three days. This creates inconvenience not only for the officers but also for the public who come seeking government services,” he remarked.Sukhalu said he fully understood the realities faced by field officers, recalling his own years of service in different departments across the state.“I was also a field servant. I served in various places and departments. I know the practical difficulties officers encounter while serving in remote areas,” he said.He pointed out that with the growth in population and increasing public expectations, government officers today shoulder greater responsibilities than ever before.“As the population increases, more people naturally come to meet officers. When they cannot find the concerned officials, they become frustrated. Therefore, we must all work together to ensure better public service delivery,” he added.Emphasising integrity and dedication in public service, Sukhalu encouraged officers not to be discouraged by the inevitable challenges of government service.“If you work sincerely, things will move forward. Challenges will always remain. Do not expect everything to be smooth throughout your career. There will always be ups and downs, but sincerity in service will always earn respect,” he stated.Reflecting on his own administrative career, Sukhalu recalled serving as Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Zunheboto and said the experience had given him a deep understanding of the district’s administrative needs.“I am not saying I was a perfect officer, but I always tried my best wherever I served. I have also served here as ADC, and I know the expectations and aspirations of the people,” he said.“I request all officers, irrespective of department, to take care of Zunheboto. This is not merely because I am the MLA representing this constituency, but because Zunheboto is the headquarters of the Sümi community. The development of this district is the concern of every Sümi legislator,” he said.“As long as you are serving here, please try to help our people. I know you are already doing your part, but I request you to put in a little more effort than before. Your service and commitment will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people of Zunheboto,” he added.
